L7 Jumbo Charms

Pattern based on “Falling Charms”, a you-tube video by Missouri Star. Instead of 5” charms, our jumbo charms are cut 8 ½”.  Finished quilt, without borders, is 50” x 60”.

Materials

8 Fat quarters or equivalent, cut into 30 - 8 ½” squares
1 yard of background fabric, cut into 14 - 2 ½” strips.

Sewing Directions

1.       Lay the background strip right-side up on the sewing machine. Lay a jumbo charm right-side down along the edge of the strip. Sew a ¼” seam along the edge.

2.       Without picking up the completed piece, lay another jumbo charm on the background close to the completed one and continue sewing. Repeat until all the jumbo charms are attached.

3.       Cut the background strip in line with the jumbo charm separating the blocks. Press toward the jumbo charm.

4.       Lay another background down right-side up. Lay a sewn jumbo charm right-side down along the edge of the strip, leading with the attached background strip. Sew a ¼” seam along the edge.

5.      Without picking up the completed piece, lay another sewn jumbo charm on the background close to the completed one and continue sewing. Repeat until all the jumbo charms are attached and bordered on 2 adjacent sides.

6.       Cut the background strip in line with the jumbo charm, separating the blocks. Press toward the jumbo charm. This is the completed block and you are ready to assemble the quilt top.

7.       The background of the blocks can be arranged in the shape of a “L” or a “7”.

 

 

 


8.       The first row is made of 5 blocks alternating - L 7 L 7 L

9.       The second row is made of 5 blocks alternating 7 L 7 L 7

10.   Continue the alternating pattern for the 6 rows that make the quilt.
