On Feb. 6 over 70 local quilters met at the St. Gabriel Community Center to participate in the National Quilt of Valor sew day and completed 6 patriotic quilt tops for Louisiana veterans. Another 7 quilts went home with participants to be completed.
The high point of the day was a presentation ceremony of completed patriotic quilts to 13 local veterans in honor of their service. Recipients included active military personnel with service in Iraq and Afghanistan to veterans from WWII, the Korean conflict, Viet Nam and the Cold War.
The event was sponsored by Daisy Comeaux of Cottage Quilts & Creations in St. Gabriel, The Giving Quilt, Inc., The Wasted Women’s Bee and the National Quilting Association. Lunch was provided by American Legion Post 312 of St. Gabriel.
